The Friends of Stoneydown Park is a friendly group of local residents who are about our lovely local park. In 2010 we took over the lease of the park hut and members open the hut to provide tea, use the toilet and access toys and activities inside the hut. We transformed the compound next to the hut into a community games area and are now fundraising to create an interactive sensory garden. We run the annual folk festival in the park. We are a group that is open to all - please join us!
Why the community needs usOur pocket park is the only green space for many of our local residents. We want to make it a place that all can enjoy - whether to play sport, take a stroll or have a play in the playground. Our work to fundraise to improve the park, and our work opening up the hut so that refreshments and toilet are available mean that our park is a nicer place to be. Our park is a place where all members of the community can come together and enjoy themselves side by side.
Our impact on the communityA cleaner park with no need for parents to struggle with small children needing the toilet. A park where fun activities are available at no cost (e.g. craft days, nature days, art trail activities). A park where we improve our environment for all - the community games area, the planned interactive sensory garden and soon the community orchard scheme!
