100 takes its root from the approaching one hundred year anniversary of The First World War, 1914-1918. Produced in partnership with the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry, the project, which culminates in 2014, consists of four major commissions, 'Powder' a short play for schools by Richard Walls, 'For The Fallen' a film by Jay Langdell, 'A Kiss From France', an installation by textile artist Julia O'Connell, and 'Coventrated', a full length play by Steve Waters.
Why they need our serviceThe project provides a catalyst for Theatre Absolute and the community to explore its response to the approaching centenary of WW1. It is about our collective history, but also this work is about Coventry both 100 years ago, and 100 years later. Through its four commissions the project is a stimulant that allows the community to reflect on the centenary, and to be involved through participation and discussion.
Plan and expected resultsA successful 100 Project will continue to build on both Theatre Absolute and the Shop Front Theatre's profile, both regionally and nationally. 100 will be a significant project, as it means four new commissions will be created for the city of Coventry, its communities, and the West Midlands region. It will impact on the community by providing four high quality arts experiences, and by shining a light on the city of Coventry, giving a voice to stories untold or newly imagined.
