This September i have set myself the challenge to run 100 miles as part of the My Zen Run fundraiser organised by HDANI. I enjoy running and became involved with HDANI when i learned that a member of my running group is living with Huntington's Disease. I believe this is an incredibly worthwhile cause and in 2018 i joined the board of HDANI as Chair.
Thank you to everyone who donates and supports this challenge and the work of Huntington's Disease Association Northern Ireland
Huntington's Disease is an inherited disease with symptoms, usually starting at mid-adulthood, causing a progressive loss of control over thoughts, feelings, behaviour, movement and communication until the person requires 24-hour care. Every child conceived naturally to a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. 285 people are estimated to have Huntington’s Disease in Northern Ireland and there are approx. 5 times as many people are at risk of inheritance. There is currently no cure for Huntington’s Disease.
