Scottish Jeans Cycle Challenge - Carers Leeds
As a charity Carers Leeds need funding so I’m asking you to sponsor me to cycle 202 miles/325km, the distance from my home in Leeds and mums’ home in Tranent to help fund the Dementia Hub. The distance is one half of the round trip I have been making regularly over the last 12 months to take mum to her medical appointments.
Mum has had some challenging health issues for several years but was diagnosed as having Vascular Dementia and Alzheimer’s in 2020. Her care needs are growing but it seems like the support available is diminishing. The medical professions we have been seeing are brilliant and we are grateful to them. However, the bureaucracy involved is crazy!! Support from Charities are a real life line in getting through the maze of moving.
I’m going to begin my cycle on Monday the 17th of May – the start of Dementia Action Week. If you can donate even a small amount to help me raise funds for the Dementia Hub at Carers Leeds to enable them to continue supporting people until such time as there is a system that supports everyone in the UK equally.
The Alzheimer’s Society are trying to address these issues. They are campaigning for “a system that means every person living with dementia, and every carer, can get the support they need to stay happy, healthy and independent for as long as possible. This means quality care that is right for them, free and easy to get, no matter where you live – like the NHS.”
You can read more about the Alzheimer’s society and Dementia Action Week here - www.alzheimers.org.uk/get-involved/dementia-action-week better still you can sign the petition to Cure the Care system.
Thank you.
You are so upbeat, positive and truly selfless, so not for 1 minute were you going to let this ride defeat you. What a lovely cause for a beautiful lady. Love Zoe and the girls xx
