Sid Street was/is a legend, a big man with a big heart & an even bigger sense of humour. Whether you knew him for 10 mins or 30 years he left an impression, his appetite & love for life was infectious. Despite his passing in 2022 he remains an absolute source of inspiration, to challenge oneself, to not accept the norm, but to seek adventure & help those around you who face their own battles. Sid didn’t lose his fight with Cancer, after nearly 6 years of treatment he simply decided he was ready for the next challenge. To quote the Big Man, “give me a couple of months Pinch, & I will have it all sorted upstairs!” There are insufficient adjectives to describe our “Sid”, he wasn’t perfect, but his spirit, friendship & drive to do the “right thing” is ever lasting. He was no greater a friend than to Charlie Codling Charlie was diagnosed with a Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an incurable brain tumour. Devastatingly after only 5 months, Charlie passed away, just 2 weeks before his 5th birthday. He & Sid were great friends, it is through this friendship that Sid supported Charlie’s parents in bringing to life ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’ their family motto. This in turn has brought about a fitting memorial: Charlie’s Beach Hut, which aims to provide families of children with life limiting illnesses a relaxing environment so they can forge some forever memories, in a hope that they too can ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’. No one could match Sid’s appetite for fund raising our favourite remains his entry into the world Conker Championships! However, we are going to try to follow his motto “Go big or go home”. After nearly 2500 miles of plodding, Marty & I have decided it would be a great idea to follow in Sid’s footsteps & try to raise some funds for Charlie’s by tackling the Marathon Des Sables 2023.
