I usually avoid running like the plague!
But here I am, voluntarily subjecting myself to 50km of running over 30 days. Why? Because men's mental health matters, and I'm willing to suffer for a good cause! Bonus suffering, new baby due in April and also a heavy stag do for my good friend upcoming...why do I do this to myself...
Men's Minds Matters is doing incredible work to tackle the seriously unfunny issue of male suicide. Seriously, the statistics are grim, and we need to do something about it.
Here's the deal:
I'll be complaining. Probably a lot of complaining.
You'll be donating. Because you're awesome and want to help.
Together, we'll raise money to support Men's Minds Matters and help them provide vital resources to guys who need it.
The Weight of the Numbers:
When we say "males account for roughly three-quarters of all suicides," that means for every woman who dies by suicide in the UK, roughly three men also lose their lives. Imagine those men: fathers, brothers, sons, friends, colleagues.
The rising suicide rates, particularly among middle-aged men, signify that many individuals are struggling in silence. Think of the man in his late 40's, perhaps facing job pressures, relationship difficulties, or financial strain. He may feel isolated, unable to express his pain, and that feeling of hopelessness can become overwhelming.
Each suicide leaves a ripple effect, impacting families, friends, and entire communities. The loss creates profound grief, and often, unanswered questions. Consider the families left behind, the partners, children, and parents grappling with the "why."
The fact that suicide is the largest cause of death for men under 50, emphasizes that these are not just statistics of old age, but of men in the prime of their lives.
So please, help me raise some money!
