Saving 85 lives Dementia sufferers from eviction
Hello, my name is Greta. My mum Julia has Alzheimers and currently is a resident of Woodland View Nursing Home, Sheffield. She has been here for almost 5 years, after her needs became too much for my Dad to cope with at home, without the extra specialist care that she required. When she moved to Woodland View, it was of the understanding that this would be her home for the rest of her life. She is settled here and has good care and carers that know her specific needs and quirks! Sadly now, mum and the other residents of Woodland View and Birch Avenue (it's sister home) are at risk of eviction if they fail to continue to qualify for continued health care funding. An agreement was signed by the CCG agreeing to let these residents stay in their home despite this; providing the cost of living is covered by social and/or personal funding. However, the CCG is set not to honour this promise and have responded to our solicitor saying they will let us know 'in due course'. We are also challenging the unlawful assessments that some residents have had. I am raising funds to help cover the legal costs. As a family, we have already donated along with others but will still need more funds. Some families are not in a position to contribute so fundraising is an alternative option. The target is £20,000. I am doing this for my Mum and for the current residents of these 2 nursing homes because lives matter. It has been proven to be detrimental to move residents with severe dementia, which is why the CCG acknowledged this in the first place. Please help me secure their homes. This could be a relative of yours or even you or me in the future. Our Elderly should not be discarded! So, on the weekend of 8th June I will be doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge (25 miles up hill and down dale in 12 hours!). Please donate what you can, no matter how small, it all counts. Julia, may you continue to inspire us to care for others. Love you forever, Peter
