The Acton Reduce and Recycle Hub is a community project helping people to reduce their waste. Run by Action West London, our team of local residents, volunteers, and organisations help to make reducing waste, reusing items, and recycling are a normal part of life.  With funding from the National Lottery and Ealing Council, we run free monthly events on the first Saturday of each month, from 10 am to 3 pm, at Acton Market or St Mary’s Church. This funding ends in March 2025.

At these events, people can meet local environmental groups, learn about reducing waste and the circular economy. We collect unwanted clothing and electronics for recycling and run repair cafes for clothes, textiles, and electrical goods.  We have stalls with recycling advice, upcycling workshops, local repair services, sharpening, and refurbished bikes. People can get involved with local climate action projects, like seed swaps, find out about cycle hubs, and learn about Tiny Forests. We run clothes and book swaps, mend clothes, sharpen tools, and give away upcycled items.

We’ve had thousands of visitors at our events and we've collected over 700kg of clothing, over 186kg of small electricals, and swapped over 500 books. We help people repair and upcycle their clothes, and we've repaired over 100 items so far. We run seasonal clothes swaps, collect winter clothes for local charities, and collect food for Ealing Foodbank. Our work has won awards, including the BBC London Make a Difference Green Award and we are not just collecting things; we're helping people change their habits, encouraging them  to think about what they buy and how they dispose of things, and to take responsibility for the environment.

We need more funding  to continue to run our monthly hubs after March.  Without funding, this event will end.
