Hi,
Firstly, thanks for coming to the page, we really appreciate any donations that we can get. Not only is it a good driver for us during the challenge, but it will all really help NIWE.
Our parents decided that this would be a good Christmas present for us. We’re both very excited and nervous for the challenge, but also decided that it would be great to do it for a charity. For anyone that doesn’t know the National Three Peaks Challenge covers a total walking distance of 37km and ascent of 3064m. You tackle the highest mountains in Scotland (Ben Nevis – 1345m), England (Scafell Pike – 978m) & Wales (Snowdon – 1085m) in 24hrs.
Over the last few years mental health and eating disorders have had a big impact on our family, so this seemed the right cause for us to try and help.
- Between 1.25 and 3.4 million people in the UK are affected by an eating disorder.- Around 10% of people affected by an eating disorder suffer from anorexia nervosa.- 40% of people affected by an eating disorder suffer from bulimia nervosa.- Eating disorders have the highest mortality rates among psychiatric disorders.- Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder in adolescence.
NIWE is a small charity reliant on the amazing generosity of the public to continue to work in Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Northumberland. They can provide:
- 1-2-1 counselling- Health & Wellbeing Online Workshops- Friends & Family Support Group- Maudsley Model Training Courses- Eating Distress Talks, Workshops and Awareness Training for schools, professionals and organisations
There are currently 455 adult inpatient beds for eating disorders, leaving thousands of people on extremely long NHS waiting lists. This is why charity organisations like NIWE can be so vital in saving lives.
Thank you for any donation you can give, we really appreciate all the support!
Alex & Becky
