The Aim of Eden Rose Coppice Trust Is to give cancer patients and their families an opportunity to escape, reflect and connect with nature. The charity also focuses on those living with mobility, health and disability and adults with learning difficulties. find us: www.withnature.org
Eden Rose manages 2.4 acres of urban woodland behind Sainsbury's in Sudbury, known as Armes Wood. It once belonged to the Armes carpet factory but since their move in 2004 it has been neglected. It was once a working chalk pit supplying to industry. Since the pit was worked out it has been colonised in the main by self seeding sycamore and acacia. (Eden Rose has two other established and working sites: The Coppice adjacent to the Quay Theatre in Sudbury and Brickmakers in Back Hamlet Ipswich. Each are on Facebook)
Eden Rose took responsibility for Armes Wood in September 2018 and a lot of hard work later clearing sycamores and acacia (and an awful lot of rubbish) volunteers planted Hazel, oak; elm; rowan; Wild cherry; silver birch; hawthorn and hornbeam, about 900 over two planting seasons.
This season's planting initiative will consist of a double hedge along the fence line by the public footpath from Newton Croft to Cornard Road; about 100 yards. It will be 60% Hawthorne with crab apple; spindle; dog rose; field maple; guelder-rose and hazel. We will also plant a small copse of small leaf lime (either whips or more mature 3-5 years dependent upon monies raised). We also have a piece of unimproved grassland most suitable for a small orchard of 10 trees or so: plum; apple; pear; quince and walnut.
Any monies raised from this Localgiving page will be spent exclusively within Armes Wood.
Please give us your help. It is very much appreciated.
