In January this year I started the Couch to 5k programme in an attempt to lose weight. Not much weight lost, hey ho!
Then my old work colleagues at DangerPoint asked if I would run the Flintshire 10k for them.
10k is way out of my comfort zone, but I figured that's what a challenge is meant to be and I set about actually preparing for it. This is so not like me.
I have upped my twice weekly runs by 1km each month and currently can manage 9k.
4 days to go until the big day and I need to start collecting sponsorship. Thank you for anything you can donate.
DANGERPOINT INFO
DangerPoint is a fully accessible, interactive educational safety centre and registered charity based in Talacre, North Wales. Our Mission is, “To educate children and young people in safety awareness in order to reduce the incidents of accidental death and injury and promote health, wellbeing and community safety”. Every day at DangerPoint children and young people undertake training that teaches them how to stay safe in a wide variety of life-like scenarios, empowering them to make healthier, positive life choices. The unique and innovative centre is set out like one big interactive village complete with a home, road, shop, train and beach where visitors learn lifelong skills by experiencing risky situations in a safe, purpose-built environment. Having the opportunity to experience risk, make choices and learn from mistakes proves to be an effective and memorable way to learn. Money raised will go directly towards providing subsidised entry to the centre for schools and other groups, removing financial barriers from schools and families. Every year accidents leave many thousands permanently disabled or disfigured. Most of these accidents are preventable through increased awareness and through simple improvements made in the home environment.
