This is my biggest challenge to date! I have always struggled with sports and am not a ‘natural’ runner. I found running when I was going through tough time and it saved me. I am running to support this amazing charity which do incredible work in Wiltshire with victims of domestic abuse. Having worked as a social worker I truly appreciate the work they do and it is vital to supporting victims of domestic abuse.
Splitz Support Service is a registered charity (No 1064764) delivering support Services for adults and young people experiencing the trauma of domestic abuse and sexual violence in Wiltshire. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic abuse during their lifetime.ONS (2019) “The support you gave me when I needed someone to make sense of it all was just amazing”. Sally 2020 “Thank you for helping me find myself again.” Helen 2019 Last year we supported over 2500 people experiencing domestic abuse in Wiltshire . The physical injuries heal but the hidden impact of domestic abuse can leave individuals with post-traumatic stress similar to those who have been in a war zone. Severe anxiety, hyper vigilance, low self-esteem, sleepless nights, fear of making connections and building new friendships leave victims feeling isolated and disconnected from everyday life. Sometimes basic tasks like going to the supermarket can be too overwhelming. The support of a Volunteer Buddy for 2 – 4 hours per week can offer information, support and reassurance to help victims and their children to rebuild their lives by listening, encouraging and promoting independence.
