In 2021, the last recorded stats for male suicide show that 5219 people in ENGLAND took their own lives and 3852 (74%) of those were male. As men we often bottle everything up and refuse to open up on our feelings despite being in a very dark place. With the way the world is currently, it is time now to encourage men to open up about their feelings and seek help if they are not feeling themselves.
On Monday 16th October 2023, I along with two friends of mine Mark and Alex will be climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland on our hands and knees to raise money for MENS MINDS MATTER and raise awareness for male suicide prevention. The reason behind crawling up is to evidence that even when life has you on your knees feeling at your lowest, you can still reach the top.
We have chosen ‘mens minds matter’ because all of us at some point in our lives have suffered with mental health. It is something we have been open about and therefore all share the same passion for, to help raise awareness and encourage others who are also struggling to come forward and open up.
We are all aware how tough this is going to be but we are excited for the challenge and are extremely motivated to take part in this for a very important cause. We all come from similar backgrounds having met over 20 years ago in our local gymnastics club. Alex and I are both former British gymnasts and mark is a professional acrobatic performer.
Thankyou for taking the time to read our story.
We would all be extremely grateful for any donations you’re able to make towards this important cause.
(for health and safety purposes, Knee pads and gloves will be worn to limit chances of injury and a forth person will be present with first aid kits for any issues during the climb)
