Nova is seeking funding for continuation of our adaptive support for the most disadvantaged people in North Kensington poorest wards and those of surrounding boroughs, who face disproportional challenges and difficulties as a result of Covid-19 crisis. Nova serves over 1,200 people through its grassroots work and reaches an additional 1,000 through its social change events annually. 90% of people accessing our services are of BAME and migrant backgrounds. Many face complex challenges- poor housing, mental health, low levels of formal education, and are frequently either unemployed or trapped in low paid work. Through our ‘Keeping in Touch Programme’ we gathered information of their urgent needs through COVID and created the following programs ;
- Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
- Food box and Essential Packs delivery
- Device Loan Scheme
- Keeping in Touch Programme
- Online interactive activities for children
- Specialist Sessions: Q&As
The requested funding will go towards financing:
Community Support Worker who will continue with providing the above services and adapt Nova’s COVID crisis programme for the community, taking into account their increasing and changing demands.
Pre-Employment advisor who provides advice and guidance as part of Nova IAG services. Our advisors are doing urgent work supporting individuals in low paid, insecure employment or those moving towards employment. Advice and guidance is offered 1-1 on telephone, text, Zoom support and as COVID limitation are lifted will be back to face to face services. Services are available 51 weeks of the year, including evenings and weekend. Our funding is jeopardised because of the pandemic and we urgently need to secure support for this role.
Our commitment for the defined work for this appeal is :
Project Outcome 1: ‘Keeping in Touch Programme’ reaching out and responding to needs of 250+ people in critical need
Project Outcome 2: 30% increase in supply of guidance and advice for housing, financial support and pre-employment support as part of increased demand for Nova IAG services (IAG currently services 200 users per month)
Project Outcome 3: 50+ Children from disadvantaged families maintain and grow their maths and English
These are challenging times and we appreciate your support to help Nova continue to respond to the needs of people in the community and to increase its reach.
People consistently describe Nova as like a family and for many, who have been displaced and feeling lonely, it really is their family.
“Nova is a lifeline for so many local people. You can trust staff, they don’t judge you. They listen, they care and most of all, they want you to succeed”. Nova community member
