For the month of April we are challenging ourselves as a family to walk the equivalent amount in miles from the top of Ireland to the bottom, which is 369 miles in total, and raise much needed funds for Angel Eyes NI. The 1st of April marks 2 years since our son Fionn was registered blind at age 3. We learned that he has lifelong eye conditions that would worsen as he gets older and eventually he will lose the limited vision he has completely. It was just devastating for us as a family trying to come to terms with what this meant for Fionn’s future. It was a such an emotional time and we felt very isolated.
Angel Eyes NI have been an absolute lifeline for Fionn from the beginning. They are so supportive and understanding of our situation. They have guided us through Fionn’s journey from nursery into his primary education, supported us through the statement process in getting Fionn 1-1 support, and continue to help us gain all the knowledge and understanding we need as parents to help our son grow and flourish and not be disadvantaged due to his disability.
They host various activities and fun days that are safe, secure and accessible for children with visual impairment and Fionn loves to attend with his 2 sisters. We are very blessed to have such an amazing charity to advocate for all children with visual impairment. For us parents, they have changed a devastating time in our lives into a bright positive future that we are eternally grateful for!
Angel Eyes NI are not government funded. Last year, as a result of the pandemic, they lost over 80% of their funds as so many fundraising events were cancelled, so as a family we want to raise some much needed money for them so they can continue the amazing work they do for families like ours. We are an active family and love walking and hiking together, so we’re excited to get started with our challenge! Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
