Using the Chill Out Bus mobile project vehicle, or local community venues, the project delivers a comprehensive play and youth work activities service across Harborough District, working closely with Parish and Town Councils to provide activity sessions in rurally isolated communities. Sessions can include arts and crafts, sports, cooking, games, as well as providing an opportunity for support with emotional wellbeing difficulties from the trained and experienced staff.

Why they need our service

Children and young people living in Harborough District often have no access to out of school, informal, recreational opportunities due to their rural isolation and inadequate public transport. Isolation within their local communities can lead to unresolved emotional/mental health needs, lack of awareness by adult decision makers of the needs of local young people, and inter-generational misunderstanding and stereotyping.

Plan and expected results

We have established weekly clubs and sessions in a number of Harborough District villages, providing activities for between 12 and 24 different children and young people from 8 years to 18 years each week at each location. We record the positive changes and development in the children and young people attending which include improved co-operation and team work skills, improved emotional and mental health, and improved pride in themselves, their identity and their communities.
