The Birth Partner Project provides volunteer birth partners to refugee and asylum-seeking mums who would otherwise face pregnancy, labour, birth and the first few weeks of motherhood alone.
Pregnant women seeking sanctuary in the UK face many barriers to receiving the help and support they need including financial hardship, being moved around multiple times during pregnancy, language barriers, racism and discrimination, inadequate housing and poor mental and physical health due to past experiences, the challenges of claiming asylum and trying to navigate an unfamiliar healthcare system.
The Birth Partner Project provides trained volunteer birth partners to offer companionship, emotional support and practical information to women seeking sanctuary, helping them feel informed and empowered on their journey through the final weeks of pregnancy, throughout labour and birth, and into the first 8 weeks of being a mum to a new baby.
All mums deserve to have the support they need to physically and mentally well during this time. I would love to celebrate the impending arrival of baby Aston no. 3 by helping mums seeking sanctuary in the UK to give their babies the best start in life.
Thank you xx
