Our Powys Community Helpers are supporting older people to enjoy local community life.
Support to reconnect with community may seem like a simple thing, but it can make a world of difference to older people.
We provide friendly support so that isolated and lonely older Powys people can enjoy getting out and about again.
“I really enjoy going out with my new friend, it brightens up my week. I feel that I can cope with life again and am able to go out and do things that I didn’t want to do before.”
Getting together for tea and a natter, walking buddies, light gardening, dog-walking, help to enjoy the internet, visiting local interest groups and sharing hobbies and skills together.
Our Community Helper Volunteer Service offers free friendship support visits for people aged 50+ in Powys. We visit older people at home or at a local meeting place, usually once a week for thirty minutes to an hour, at a time convenient for them.
We match older people with one of our friendly volunteers with similar interests – so they can be certain of good conversation. All of our volunteers have undergone security checks, so older people can feel safe and enjoy spending time together with their new friend.
We help older people to stay connected and supported, for as long as they would like. Many people tell us that meeting up with their Community Helper is the highlight of their week.
