Suicide is the number 1 killer in men under 55, a man in the UK alone takes his own life every 2 hours and 76% of suicides are men. The real tragedy in this, unlike a lot of deaths, this is has a potential to be preventable with the correct social understanding and support framework in place. Although the archaic "man up" philosophy is apparently on the decline, there are still traditional beliefs in a non traditional world on how men should be and deal with their issues.
What started for me as a simple goal to run a half marathon to remember my dad, grew arms and legs and I decided I wanted to support a cause that spoke to me as a person. So when I done a lot of research and found men's minds matter. I thought go hard or go home. I booked 4 over 4 consecutive weeks... for a guy that's always been "rotund", had 2 hip operations and only ran after an ice cream van till now...I may have bitten off more than I can chew 🙄
The amazing folks at MMM are pushing a proactive approach to men's mental health by promoting it openly in public. Training men of all walks of life, directly on how to support themselves and each other, to develop tools to tackle the root cause before it becomes a problem. Whether its out in the streets, in businesses or training health care professionals to tackle concerns, they are fighting a good fight, so I decided to join, and I hope you guys will too. Even a small action is enough to a big impact in the world. Stay safe and take care. Thanks for reading 💙
