It's my birthday on Sunday May 10th. It's definitely, definitely not a '0' birthday. Honestly!
It's lockdown so I know it's hard for you to get out to buy a card....and I really don't need anything.
Also it's just over a year since A Friend called me and suggested (and nagged a bit) that I go to my doctor to see about a prescription for anti-depressants. I started taking them on MayDay last year, the irony of which is not lost on me!
I know lockdown is tough for us all, but it's really tough for those who struggle with mental health. The separation and anxiety can be crippling. As always music has been a saviour for me, and I am about to host my 7th online open mic.
Tonic: Music For Mental Health do a lot of brilliant things under the banner of music therapy for people who are suffering with mental health issues, and in particular the stigma that surrounds that topic still.
I've met many of the team a few times at various gigs, not least The Specials at Brixton Academy where I was honoured to shake a bucket for their collection that evening. They are a really special group of people
So if you REALLY want to spend some pennies on me for my birthday, please donate here to help those who are still struggling, who think they do not have A Friend, who have not yet found the joy that music brings.
Thank you. See you on the other side!
Mark
