Education is a significant initiator of development at every other level of our life. Education is widely accepted to be a fundamental resource, both for individuals and Societies. Indeed, in most countries, basic education is nowadays perceived not only as a right, but also as a duty. A sizeable segment of our population continues to reside in the villages. However, access to quality education with Primary education in rural India is still very limited.
The deltaic region of Sundarbans is very much prone to natural calamities like tidal surge, breach of river embankments, cyclone, flood, etc. The inhabitants mostly living in abject poverty are the struggling for survival and combating against natural calamity which leads to trafficking, child labour, etc. Due to lack of proper school first generation learners as education is an important component of upbringing has been neglected owing to involvement of children into income generation activities.
Most of the poor parents in our rural area, who cannot fulfill the basic needs of their children generally, do not want to send their children to the school. The parents of the children think it more profitable to engage their children in any work and girl children in specific in different odd jobs to supplement the meager income of the families. The poor families cannot afford to buy educational materials such as books, learning instruments, bags, etc. Even they have no ability to buy dress, shoes, and supply of foods. The other problems we face to make primary education effective are: lack of school building, lack of indoor furniture, lacks of toilets both boys and girls, lack of drinking water and lack of trained teachers. Children in coastal areas are always malnourished and suffer from various diseases due to lack of health awareness.
