As an avid cyclist with a dodgy back, my greatest achievement to date is riding 100 miles in a 1 day, so I decided to up the 'anti' to raise vital funds for 'Sunshine & Smiles' Click to follow us on Instagram
The challenge.
July 2021 - Cycle the length of mainland U.K. Lands End to John O'Groats as part of a self funded group of 6 riding 85-100 miles a day up & down some big hills over 12 days
Given my fondness for a pint of ale, a dodgy back & a 50th birthday later this year, I think the 'anti' has been well and truly upped!
7 years ago my beautiful, determined & sassy niece Darcy was born and diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. When Darcy came into the world, it's fair to say mum, dad & the rest of the extended family were thrown into a world they knew nothing about.
For Danny & Claire, Darcy's mum & dad, a glimpse into the future to appreciate this journey is not as scary as it first seems, (Unlike my bike ride) would have been a wonderful thing. The journey is just a little different.
For Darcy & her family there is a very special reason for this, the registered charity, Sunshine & Smiles. As a Yorkshire based Downs Syndrome Charity they have provided vital support to Danny & Claire.
This vital support needs to continue for Darcy and for the 1000's of other Down Syndrome children and families they help. Of course it costs money & like all charities their funding has been hit during these terrible last 12 months.
1 hour of face to face support for parents costs £15, 1 hour of speech & language help for 4 kids is £60. Critical group swimming lessons are £250!
I wish you could all meet my little niece Darcy, she has developed into an incredible character, & Sunshine & Smiles has played no small part in this. We wouldn't change Darcy for the world but we always want to change the world for Darcy and this is me doing my little bit... with your help, please give whatever you can and let us keep the fabulous work of Sunshine & Smiles going.
