Gateway Award is a programme of activities similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award and is designed to give people the opportunity to experience real challenges, express creativity, increase confidence and independence and gain a sense of personal achievement. There are three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold. On completion of each award level, participants are presented with a Gateway Award certificate and badge
The Gateway has been a very successful project and we have tried for a number of years to set up a similar group in Wokingham. As part of looking at ways to make the charity more sustainable and diversify our income streams we identified that the Gateway project could be delivered as a day service activity to be paid for from individual’s personal budgets and to offer more choice of activity on the local area. With funding for a pilot project to subsidise the scheme in the first year and prove its value we would aim for it to be self-financing by the participants going forward.
