About

In March - before lockdown began - I began training to run the Great Bristol 10k to raise funds for Babbasa. That's not now taking place but I'm still running my own 10k challenge! On Sunday 3rd May I plan to complete the distance on a run from my home.

Babbasa is a brilliant not-for-profit social enterprise that works with young people from ethnically diverse, less advantaged areas of inner city and east Bristol. The team inspire and support young people to reach their potential through skills training, mentoring, professional networking and work placements.

Over the last 4 years Babbasa has enabled over 2200 young people to increase confidence and skills and take steps into employment, education, or enterprise.

With the Coronavirus pandemic affecting ethnic minority communities more severely than others, this support is needed more than ever. 74% of the young people engaged with Babbasa now report increasing levels of anxiety, fears about loss of work and income, and concerns about their futures. We want to keep our youth workers supporting young people in this time when they most need it, empower young people to achieve, and prevent even greater inequalities in life chances resulting from the pandemic. Please support our #Beyond Covid appeal to help us to do that.

About Bristol 10k

Although the Great Bristol 10k will no longer take place in May, all entrants can still earn a well-deserved medal. Simply complete the 10k distance any time between now and Sunday 3 May and we'll send your medal through the post. In line with Government advice to exercise once a day on your own, we suggest picking the day that suits you best and head out for your 10k. As long as you complete your 10k between now and Sunday 3 May, there’s no pressure. Simply track your run on your smart phone or watch and save the workout. Then visit our dedicated Great Run Solo webpage to follow the steps and submit your run details. Your medal will be posted out to you after Sunday 3 May. We'd love to see how you get on, so please feel free to share your screenshots on our social channels using #GreatRunSolo
