Childhood bereavement directly affected our family many years ago when my dad passed away suddenly aged 45.  My sisters and I were all teenagers.  Although we were well supported by friends and family my memory of this time is that my mum shouldered the majority burden of all our grief.

More recently after the death of a close friend, Touchstones provided immediate support to his family, and particularly his kids.  They continue to offer advice, support and expertise, helping them thrive and develop into the lovely young people they are today.

I’ve done a few long swims but this one promises to be different.  The route takes you under Barmouth Bridge and is timed to coincide with a tidal bore that pushes you upriver.  I expect it to be face numbingly cold and probably quite choppy but I’m really looking forward to the challenge.

Barmouth holds fantastic memories of camping, sunsets, BBQing fresh mackerel (courtesy of the Ingrams!), beach cricket (Jesson’s broken ribs) and getting told off for swimming across the estuary, all at a time when Magner’s Cider was all we drank.  Just the thought of it now gives me reflux.

It seems fitting to use this opportunity to raise some much-needed cash for a small charity that does incredible work.  Thank you for your support, Dave.
