I work as a volunteer at Square Food Foundation and want to raise £500 or more to support their fantastic work. I will walk the 102 miles of the Cotswold Way in early May and I would love you to help me on my journey.
Good food is vital to the quality of people's lives, but the cost of living crisis is making this increasingly difficult. In Sept 2022, 18% of households experienced food insecurity, with evidence indicating people are buying less fresh fruit and vegetables.
As well as being tasty, healthy and affordable, the food we eat should be good for nature, good for workers, good for local businesses and good for animal welfare. Square Food Foundation works in Knowle West in Bristol to reduce hunger, improve health and bring people together through food and cooking. They offer free and subsidised cooking classes to groups including: young people, older adults at risk of becoming isolated, adults and children with additional needs, local schools, and women in sex work. They also provide 200 meal kits each week containing all the ingredients needed to make a meal for a family. By equipping people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to cook, they aim to improve healthy eating, diet and mental wellbeing. £5 – could pay for ingredients for our cookery classes, helping us with the rise in the cost of food £12 – could provide a recipe kit to a family every month. Providing an extra meal for 4 people and encouraging families to cook healthy meals from scratch together £20 – could contribute to a young person joining our ‘How to be a Chef’ course, a free 12-week training course for young people NEET (not in education, employment or training)
