Hi Everyone,

Mum wasn't adamant about many things in her last wishes but the one thing she wanted, in lieu of expensive flowers, was for donations to go towards a charity that supports young people with additional needs that allows them to get into gardening. Not only for their own well-being but also to give them life skills.

During Mum's wonderful life, she was a youth worker and volunteered at A2YFA and Greenholm & Twickenham Primaries too, so I think she'd appreciate donations going to this charity; which we can actually visit and support long-term too.

Camphill School, Aberdeen is a place for young people with learning disabilities and/or complex additional needs. They provide day and residential services to 5-25 yr olds. Their open space and peaceful woodlands provide a therapeutic landscape where young people grow in confidence, skills, and independence, helping them to reach their fullest potential.

Central to their work is Murtle Garden, a beautiful, walled garden. It features raised and specialised planting beds alongside polytunnels and greenhouses, allowing all young people, regardless of mobility, to take part in growing a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The young people are involved in every stage of the growing process from seed to fork. This hands-on experience encourages physical activity, reduces anxiety and improves physical and mental wellbeing as well as motivating and establishing a passion for horticultural work which Mum would have whole-heartedly approved of. Food grown in the gardens is transported by the young people to their kitchen workshop where they can cook nutritious healthy meals for all to enjoy. It is also taken to Murtle Market, where produce is sold to the public by the young people in a takeaway café and refillery. This supports them in public-facing roles too. She'd love this! ❤️
