On Saturday 9th July I will be running the Race to the Stones 100K non-stop along The Ridgeway, starting in Lewknor, Oxfordshire and finishing at Avebury Stone Circle. This is to raise vital funds for Home-Start Exeter, East & Mid Devon who are entirely donation and grant funded.
Home-Start do an amazing job supporting local families with young children (under 5) who may be struggling for various reasons. This can include mental and physical health issues, bereavement, separation or financial worries. Their aim is to help at least 100 families in the area each year and volunteers give a few hours each week for 6-9 months until the family are back on their feet again.
The first few years of a child's life are incredibly important and getting off to the right start can ensure a healthy and positive future. By spending this quality time with a family every week, the volunteers at Home-Start are able to provide regular, compassionate support in whichever way is most beneficial for the family, for example helping them access services that can support them moving forward, or spending time with the children and taking them out on trips. The earliest years make the biggest impact: Home-Start makes sure those years count so that no child’s future is limited.
