Last year I started running in January to attempt the Bath Half and to raise money for Bath City Farm. Sadly the event was cancelled due to snow but I continued running and eventually ran the Glasgow Half in October.
This year I have decided to try the Bath Half again and (at quite late notice) have decided the join the runners raising money for First Steps (Bath).
First Steps (Bath) is a registered charity that is passionate about providing opportunities to improve the life chances of local young children who are at risk of being disadvantaged by poverty and family circumstances. First Steps (Bath) is a social enterpise which strives to use its income to maximise a positive social impact for children and families in Bath.
First Steps (Bath) have two nurseries in Twerton and Moorlands. In 2018 First Steps took on the contract for the Early Years Specialist service, Bath Opportunity Preschool, based at Three Ways School.
BOP is a specialist setting providing Early Years Education and therapeutic services to children with additional needs from Bath and North East Somerset. It provides an environment where staff work in partnership with parents and multi-disciplinary professionals promoting good practice in early intervention services. The high ratio of staff to children together with strong links with Health and Education enables them to care for children’s varying needs. BOP is funded through the local authority Early Years Specialist Service contract.
