Black Ice
On 9th January this year, on the only cold and icy day this year, I fell off my bike after hitting black ice. I broke my left ankle, fibula and tibial tuberosity (the lump just below the kneecap). After 24 hours in the JR hospital, I left with a splint on my leg, a contraption to help me get on and off the lavatory and a zimmer frame.

Fifteen weeks later.....
I'm back on my bike.  I have been training for the Big Islip Bike Ride, which takes place on Sunday 22nd May. The Big Islip Bike Ride is a 70 mile ride from Westminster Abbey to Islip on a route through Harrow, Great Missenden and Thame, in celebration of Edward the Confessor who was born in Islip in 1005 and buried in Westminster Abbey.

The ride is to help 3 charities
The Islip Big Bike Ride is a sponsored ride to benefit two charities in Islip Dr. South School and St. Nicholas’ Church.  The organisers have kindly and graciously agreed that BikeSafe can also be included in my fundraising to raise further funds for the B4044 Botley to Eynsham community path as well. To celebrate my recovery, Edward the Confessor and all who live in Islip please sponsor my ride with gifts to the Islip charities and if you wish to the BikeSafe campaign to build the B4044 Botley to Eynsham path.

Celebrated but not included in this fundraiser are the people at the JR who attended to me and got me back to riding my bike again.. The Ambulance crew, A&E, the Trauma Unit, and especially the Physiotherapy dept who not only gave me practical exercises to do, but also were very reassuring about my progress too. Quite marvellous. Ian Leggett, Chair of BikeSafe, the campaign to build the B4044 Botley to Eynsham path said:-"Many thanks for all your support now and in the past, it is highly valued and very powerful in moving the powers in government.
