About

After running my first ever half-marathon for Salford Foodbank in 2019 and completing the 24-hour 3-peak challenge for charity in 2021, I decided to take on a new challenge, a backyard ultra-marathon.

This one is a little bit different... On the 1st of June, I, and 250  others, will be running 4.2 mile laps around a nature reserve, every hour, on the hour until I physically can't continue. If I make it around 4 laps, it will be the furthest I have ever run. If I make it around 7 laps, I will officially be an ultra-marathon runner. If I do 15 laps, I will hit the 100km mark. 24 laps is the golden 100-mile mark. If I am being honest, I will be happy with anything over 6 laps....

Why am I doing this you ask? To raise money for an amazing charity that I get the pleasure of helping out with, Salford Foodbank. Please see the statement from Salford Foodbank below.

"We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

The need for our services has grown dramatically over the last year, with the cost of living crisis still having a detrimental impact on people's lives. Everyday we speak to people faced with the challenge of having to choose whether to feed their family or heat their home, this is simply not right. Our end of year report recently showed that we supported 20,690 people in 2023, 56% up on 2022. 38% of the people that came to the Foodbank in 2023 were forced to turn to our service for the first time."
Raising £500 could help to fund 28 food parcels. That's effectively 560 meals for people who are in a really tough situation.

If you can, please support me with a donation. Whoever guesses how many laps I will do correctly will win the prize of my race socks from the day....

About Suffolk Backyard Ultra

The concept may be simple, the rules are simple, but It’s only easy till it isn’t! You must run the loop and be back ready to start the next loop or you are out, the race continues until there is only one person who can complete a loop that nobody else completes within the hour. They are the then-winner of the Suffolk Back Yard Ultra, everybody else is a DNF.
