I am fundraising again for The Principle Trust Children's Charity, founded in 2011 by Mike Davies, OBE, as part of his longterm goal to help disadvantaged children. I am extremely grateful to everyone who kindly supported my race quest last year.
On Saturday 4th May 2019 I will put on my jockey cap and breeches to ride in the 1pm Charity Race at the Skipton Point to Point, this year riding Willis. The course is 1.5 miles of galloping and we have been putting in lots of fitness training, often fitting in canter work at 5.30am in the morning before work. As you will see from the photo, in the Charity Race at the Point to Point we are not your typical jockeys, but we do believe in our cause, raising all important funds for a small but vital children's charity, The Principle Trust Children's Charity. The aim of this charity is to improve the quality of life for these disadvantaged children and their families. The children the charity help could be disadvantaged socially, physically, emotionally, or as a result of extreme poverty or illness. The charity supports them by provividing exciting seaside breaks and holidays; the sort of break many of us have enjoyed with family - as children with our own parents and now often with children, or extended family of our own. A holiday is found to have a profoundly positive effect on the health and well-being of a child and their carer (s). As adults, many of us countdown to holidays to re-charge our own batteries and have quality time with loved ones. But holidays have a special benefit for children too, which is why it is so important that as many children as possible do get this chance. Using the brain's PLAY and SEEKING systems encourages cognitive functioning, social intelligence and well focused, goal-directed behaviours that may last a lifetime, especially important for those children who have little play outside the confines of their hospital or own home, or those who have learning difficulties or behavioural problems.
