About

Glamis adventure playground was one of the very FIRST adventure playgrounds in London - and they need your help! The cost of living crisis is affecting us all, and small charities like this one, are really feeling the pinch!

So I thought I'd have an adventure of my own and run my second ever half marathon to raise some money! My childhood was filled with adventure and kids in the city deserve the same privilege!

What is Glamis Adventure Playground?
Glamis is a haven in Shadwell for children to play in a gated complex, safe from the road and on a site that once served as a children's hospital. It boasts climbing apparatus and an arena, swings, a fire pit, an allotment, an indoor space for cooking and activities and an outdoor decking area known as the nest! Anyone and everyone is welcome, but for 8-15yr olds in particular, it's a space to let imaginations run wild, to build, to paint, to grow, to cook and to engage in activities that promote play in a world that asks us to grow up too soon!

A Cambridge University study (supported by many others since) highlighted 'the importance of play' in developing children's resilience, self-reliance, emotional and relational intelligence and general well-being. It concluded that there was 'a lack of provision for children's play in communities, arising from a lack of awareness of its importance'.
Glamis is a rare example of where this importance of play is not only recognised, but championed.

Why's it so important?!
Tower Hamlets has one of London's youngest populations, with over 20% under the age of 20. It has the highest level of child poverty in the UK with over 50% children living in households below the poverty line (after housing costs). Glamis is at the heart of that community, providing hot meals, play and friendship, all essential ingredients to a safe, happy and adventurous childhood!
