This year 4 colleagues and myself were due to be taking part in the Prudential Ride London 100 cycle ride in aid of our Charity of the Year at The Access Group, the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 this event has been cancelled.

Not to be deterred, a number of us have decided we will still be riding 100 miles on the day, Sunday 16th August 2020, to raise vital funds for this brilliant cause, either in, from, or to our local areas.

For Ludwig Roder, a Leicester based colleague, and myself this will be the 108 mile ride from our Leicester office to the seaside Town of Hunstanton in Norfolk, subject to Covid-19 restrictions in any of the areas on the route allowing this. If restrictions prevent this, we will ride 100 (or more) miles locally, though this isn't currently expected.

Why the National Deaf Children's Society?

Shortly after Henry Freeman (pictured), the son of 2 colleagues at The Access Group, was born in November 2017 he was diagnosed as being profoundly deaf. He was fitted with hearing aids, however these didn't work as he was too deaf. With the support of NDCS, Henry was put forward for and fitted with Cochlear Implants which would give him a chance to hear. In April 2019, these were switched on, and for the first time ever Henry was able to hear. You can see the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFXPU9dlRGE

The NDCS was chosen as The Access Group Charity of the Year for 2019-2020 last year, and we are going to be continuing this support into the next financial year.

During the week of 6-10th July 2020, Henry completed 5 challenges as part of our FY21 Kick Off week, and through these challenges alone he raised over £26,000, in a single week!

Henry is an absolute star. So on August 16th we will be riding 100 miles for Henry and the National Deaf Children's Society.
