Since January, I have been quietly working on improving my running fitness. So far this year, I have coached 90 live, fitness classes on Zoom, numerous PT & TRX sessions and in between all this, I have run a staggering 624km (388 miles). My run will take place on Sunday 2nd May 2021. The route will start at Coombe (near Wooton-Under-Edge), finishing in Bath, quite a few hours later. This is not a race. This is a one-off, unsupported event. Running an Ultra distance (anything longer than a marathon - 26.2miles/42kms) is as much a mental challenge as a physical one. It takes a certain amount of toughness to run ultramarathons. Discomfort, doubt and fear are often part of the game, and running on trails is technically far more challenging than road running. Over the last couple of months, I have been out, exploring the route in shorter segments, self navigating, learning the the twists and turns, ups and downs (there will be 1,000m to climb) and I have fallen in love with the picturesque, rugged, remoteness that this route brings. In the year that The Cotswold Way itself has celebrated it's 50th anniversary, this seems the perfect time for this challenge.
