Team Fundraisers

Dear friends and colleagues,

As most of you know, my wife Jess works for a small charity based just round the corner from our house called Bonny Downs Community Association. I know they are always struggling to get enough financial support (because Jess manages their fundraising) so I encourage my school class to do little fundraisers and bring them along to do singing concerts at the lunch club for lonely old people. It was while I was at BDCA’s volunteer celebration event last year that I got chatting to Jess’ colleague Jeremy who persuaded me to do my first running race with him. Since then I have definitely caught the fitness bug and I’m now training to run my first (and probably last) Marathon. I’ve signed up to run the Luxembourg evening race on Saturday 1st June and I’m pushing myself hard to aim for a sub 3 hour finish time. I’ll obviously cover all my own expenses but wondered if anyone can spare a few pennies to sponsor me? Your donations will help them keep going with their great work and me to keep pushing through the blisters and the booze/burger ban.

Jeremy recently made a video of their work so check that out below to see what you are supporting. But basically, they help our neighbours in Newham of all ages from toddler groups to youth clubs to adult learning courses to elders coffee mornings. They “change lives and transform our community” and particularly help people in poverty through: showers and support centre for rough sleepers, clothes and toys for children in need, summer schemes to keep teenagers safely off the streets, foodbank and food growing garden, debt surgery and advocacy for people in crisis. I know I’m biased because of Jess but I’m sure you’ll agree that they are a great cause.
Many thanks,Luke
