Two of our members have taken on the challenge to cycle a 100 miles on a tandem in this year’s Ride London 100 involving a 100 mile hike from London and around Essex and back again ending up at Tower Bridge. These intrepid MSSC members wish to raise funds for a much needed tandem for the Club in order for more visually impaired people to be able to enjoy cycling once again. The club organises regular rides through rain and shine from their base in Morden but currently do not have enough bikes to meet demand. Jan and Hortense have therefore been in training to raise as much money for this cause and are determined to do the Club proud on Sunday, May 29th! Jan is visually impaired and due to her deterioration in her sight, had to give up cycling but found she could continue with her passion as a tandem stoker through MSSC and is undertaking this fundraising to “ enable other visually impaired people to continue to enjoy cycling in spite of their sight problems”. Hortense, is her sighted pilot and gives up her time to ride with the tandem group and says she gets “a great deal out of supporting visually impaired people to continue cycling as she knows the joy it brings every time she pilots a tandem for the MSSC tandem group”. Jan, Hortense and MSSC and future visually impaired riders thank you so much for your support.
