I love to run! ....and mostly I run for wine, or cake...and yes, sometimes I get quite muddy too!!
However, I do occasionally run for a good cause, and for me the SQUARE FOOD FOUNDATION is one of the best causes. I have been volunteering with them for a couple of years now and have seen first hand the amazing work they do and the dedication of all the staff who work there.
It is a fantastic charity doing amazing work around food and food education. They are working to reduce hunger, improve health, and bring people together through food and cooking.
They offer free and subsidised cooking classes to groups including: young people NEET, older adults at risk of becoming isolated, adults and children with additional needs, local schools, women in sex work and more. By equipping people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to cook, they aim to improve healthy eating, diet and mental wellbeing.
As we all know, food is not cheap, so working to raise much needed funds for this charity is a never-ending task. Which is why I am trying to raise a few quid to add to the pot.
When Alice, from the office at Square Food, offered me her Bath Half Marathon place as she is no longer able to run herself, I thought this was an ideal opportunity. I was already entered to run the Cardiff Half Marathon on 1st October, so my challenge is to get my poor old legs to get me round the Bath Half Marathon course 2 weeks later on 15th October ! How hard can that be?...
I'm going to need all the encouragement I can get, so any pennies (or pounds!) you can spare to keep me focused will be very gratefully received.
Thank you!
