I started 2019 on a mission to cycle as far as my legs would take me and to celebrate a "Feel-Fit-Forty" birthday!
That was until my friend Paul was diagnosed with stage 4 mesothelioma, aged 43. Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer caused by asbestos. Typical life expectancy from diagnosis is 12 months. There is currently no cure.
While still in hospital, Paul announced that he planned to cycle 1000 miles in 10 days from Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) in September 2019 to raise money for desperately needed research. He set up a charity called erasemeso.org to raise critical funds for research into finding a cure and access to clinical trials. He has shown incredible levels of determination, perseverance and resilience by continuing to exercise daily, battling continuous pain with the use of only 1 and a half lungs. As his friends ( a team of 16) we can only try to keep up with his training regime and stay ahead of him on the hills!
I'm joining Paul on his LEJOG adventure and we will be cycling on average 100miles/160km each day across the length of Britain this autumn.
For my birthday this year, instead of presents, I would be incredibly grateful for donations in support of LEJOG and in turn erasemeso.
