On the 3rd of October 2021 the Rainbow Unicorn Pony Cuddle Club will don their trainers and trot out to complete the Virtual London Marathon. We have 24-hours to complete the challenge and we will keep going until we have completed the 26.2 miles!- this really will be a, whole team effort.
We are raising funds for Harry's Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust (Harry's HAT). Founded by Matt and Caz, the charity aims to improve the lives of all children with hydrocephalus- just like their very own hydro-hero Harry.
Hydrocephalus (water on the brain) is a life-threatening condition for which there is no cure, only invasive treatment. Harry is one of the lucky ones. He is an extremely cheeky, unstoppable 3 year old. However his first year was very different. By the time he had reached his first birthday, he had already endured four brain surgeries and he is now kept alive by the insertion of a permanent shunt (this was inserted when he was just eight weeks old). Shunts block within the first two years of insertion in 50% of cases- meaning urgent life-saving brain surgery is needed...Harry's blocked within the first three months!
The ultimate aim of the charity is to fund a cure for hydrocepahlus so that invasive and risky treatment is not the only option. The charity, which is run entirely by volunteers, also works to: raise awareness of the condition, fund nurses and front-line workers to improve their knowledge and so improve patient care and provide sign-posting support to families.
