I'm fundraising for One Roof Leicester. Your donations will help us to help our Muslim residents who are homeless. We accommodate single people and couples who either have no funds or are suffering hardship. By offering them accommodation we can start working with them to find routes out of homelessness, help them manage their debt, access benefits, find employment, access health and mental health services and more.

Help us to help more people like Mustafa who through no fault of their own are homeless:

Mustafa was granted refugee status and secured a tenancy with a Housing Association. He believed his rent was being paid through his housing benefit and he applied for a council tax discount. He received letters from housing benefit and council tax departments asking for more information to prove his eligibility. Due to language barriers he didn't understand the letters or where to go for help so he left them unanswered. His Housing Association did not check his housing account and didn't contact him about the rent arrears he was accruing. The housing association realised 15 months later. By this stage Mustafa had £6000 in debt for rent arrears and council tax. As he had no means to pay he was evicted.

He became street homeless and picked up by LCC Outreach team who referred him to ORL. Since living with us Mustafa has been working with his support worker who has helped him to set up a payment plan to clear his dept. Unfortunately, it is going to take along time to pay off this debt and until then he is unable to find a permanent home.
