To my surprise I started running during the UK Covid lockdown and found I couldn't stop. Then I retired from full-time work, turned 68, my daughter gave birth to a beautiful boy and I became a grandad for the first time. So, I thought it was time to run a half marathon and raise some money for causes that mean a lot to me.
I'd be so pleased if you could sponsor me by donating to my chosen causes which are:
1. Restoration of the kindergarten and women’s center in the Al A’mari Refugee Camp in Ramallah, Palestine.
The Women's centre urgently needs to raise around £18,250 to maintain and restore areas of the building, the bathrooms and children’s playground.
£25 can provide a batch of tiles for the kindergarten and centre walls
£42.00 can help renovate a section of the stairs.
£250 can pay for the purchase and fitting of a toilet.
£1,000 can pay for the restoration and painting of the children’s play equipment in the garden.
The Women’s Centre, established in 1993, aims to develop the social, cultural, and professional capacities of women. 62 children use the kindergarten and 450 women benefit from activities at the centre.
The Al A’mari Camp is home to more than 10,000 people - refugees from the 1948 war and their descendants from cities such as Lydd, Ramla, and Jaffa. After four generations in exile, the densely populated camp struggles with overcrowding, poor infrastructure, poverty and unemployment.
The centre is linked to the Oxford Ramallah Friendship Association. You can donate to the Women's Centre on this Local Giving page.
2. OSARCC - a local Oxfordshire organisation providing vital local support and advocacy to survivors of sexual violence.
You can donate to this my second cause via a different fundraising page by going to Just Giving
