I'm running to raise money for South West London Law Centres (SWLLC), so that more people across south-west London can access justice and vital legal help when they need to most. Without the free or low-cost legal services the charity provides, many local people would be locked out of accessing justice, because they can’t afford a lawyer.
I've seen this first-hand, having volunteered for SWLLC since March 2019, where I help their lawyers in numerous cases where their work is so desperately needed. For example, I am currently helping to prevent a client from being evicted from their own home, despite lacking the mental capacity to even give us proper instructions in court.
SWLLC provides free community legal advice clinics, and free or low-cost casework and representation from specialist lawyers, on social justice issues including housing, employment, debt, social security and immigration. Last year it helped more than 8,000 people to stay in their homes, clear debts, resolve employment problems, protect themselves and their families, and access social security payments to prevent them from being pulled into poverty.
