Hi, my name is Tony and I will be running a virtual half marathon to raise money for Huntington's Disease Association Northern Ireland as this is a charity close to me and my families heart. My father and uncle both live with Huntington's Disease and also involves a risk of me and my siblings inheriting the disease. The charity has supported me and my family and I would like to thank you for any small donation towards the work they do.
HD is an inherited disease with symptoms, usually starting at mid-adulthood, causing a progressive loss of control over thoughts, feelings, behaviour, movement and communication until the person requires 24-hour care. Every child conceived naturally to a parent with HD has a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. 285 are estimated to have Huntington’s Disease in Northern Ireland and there are approx. 5 times as many people at risk of inheritance. There is currently no cure for Huntington’s Disease.
