We are UWE Pirates Wheelchair Basketball Club – a fast-growing, inclusive community making wheelchair basketball accessible to all. Founded in 2022 by Nova Sports, we started with just four players and now have over ten training twice a week, with numbers continuing to rise. Our team has gone from strength to strength, winning first place in our division at the EWWB League last season, and we’re now working to expand further with a youth team in development.

What We Need

Any amount you donate will help us reach our goal! Funds raised will go towards purchasing essential equipment to ensure all players can train comfortably and at their best.

Why?

Our club is growing fast, but our current equipment is not fit for purpose. We are greatly in need of new wheelchairs. The ones we currently use are old, uncomfortable, break frequently, designed for children, and we don’t have enough of them to meet our increased demand, meaning that some players are unable to participate.

We need more durable, adjustable adult-sized chairs like the RGK All-Star A2, which can accommodate different body types and improve playing experience. Our team also lacks high-quality basketballs; training with the Molten BG4500, the official national ball, would help players refine their skills before games.

We are actively seeking sponsorships and grants, including a potential partnership with Andy’s Gas, and have reached out to Bristol City Council, South Glos Council, and Bristol Sport for support. Any additional help is invaluable!
