On the 20th July I am swimming the 10.5 mile (16.8km) length of the largest lake in England, Lake Windermere in the Lake district. I expect it to take somewhere between 6-7hrs depending on weather conditions. This is one of the most iconic swims in the Uk and one i have dreamt of doing for a while. Whilst doing this I hope to raise much needed funds for a wonderful charity Scarf (Supporting Children with Additional needs, Relatives and Friends)
Scarf is a small charity that makes a big difference. They organise regular term time clubs such as Drama and a variety of sports, as well as holiday activities and days out for them and their families. The children and young people they help are aged 0-25yrs and have a range of disabilities and additional needs.
My son and our family have been members for a few years now and we find the activities and days out invaluble. Until we were members we tried to access sports and days out for Hudson and it was not always accessable for him due to the equipment or lack of support and experience of staff . He loves sports and so far has been cycling (on adaptive bikes), learnt basketball, Tennis, climbing, Taekwondo . The days out have been great fun... horse riding, climbing..boat rides..Panto to name a few. For the familys it means the world of difference as they can meet other families and siblings can make friends. Scarf make this possible with all their additional support and it means instead of feeling isolated families can feel part of a supported community.
I would love it if we could help this charity continue their amazing work. Covid restrictions have meant fundraising has been difficult. I have been training hard over many months, clocking up many hours in the freezing sea, its been very slow to warm up this year! I really cant wait to do this swim and if I can make a difference and raise money for Scarf i will be over the moon! Please, any donation small or large will be gratefully received. Thanks so much :)
