West London Welcome is a community centre and registered charity run for and with refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and other locals living in West London; founded in 2017 by local people.
WLW works together with local people to provide a safe, positive experience of community to reduce isolation, build inclusion and confidence, and challenge injustice. Every week they provide holistic community support: English classes, advice, hot food, a foodbank, clothing, childcare, and social and creative activities. They place huge emphasis on running their centre with people rather than for them - with many of their members doubling up as volunteers, complementing their tiny full-time staff of three people.
WLW supports 650 people from over 50 different nationalities each month and has over 60 volunteers. Over the past few months WLW has been supporting newly-arriving Ukrainians and Afghans with housing, accessing legal advice, and feeling welcome. WLW is located close to the Ukraine embassy and consulate, and hundreds of Afghans remain living in local hotels after being evacuated here last year. West London also has the highest concentration of Home Office hotels for newly-arriving asylum-seeking people in the country, and hundreds in this situation come to WLW for support.
We are holding a fundraising event in the form of a quiz night at The Atlas Pub SW16, in order to raise funds for WLW. It is a limited ticketed event due to capacity and we have fully sold out. However if you are unable to make it and still wish to support this incredible organisation, all donations big or small would be so greatly appreciated.♥️
