
We offer diversionary activities for children in Whalley Range to find peaceful and fruitful resolutions. We use educational, social, creative and sports activities to help people build resilience and choose positive, constructive lifestyles. Wed 1-3pm- drop in advice service, Wed 6-8pm- football leadership programme age 12-18, Fri 3.30-4.30pm- multi sport, age 6-11 and 6-8.30pm- sports mentoring age 13-18, Sat 6-9pm- open access youth club, Sun 3-4pm- children's coaching academy age 6-13
Why they need our serviceSome Manchester children are 'hard-to-reach facing poverty, deprivation and boredom. Exclusion from activities and opportunities for safe, positive community engagement and role models results in behavioural difficulties, a risk of being involved in or affected by substance misuse, crime (including hate crime) and anti-social behaviour, turning to disorder within the community. Children face various inter-related effects of disadvantage, some are not attending school and/or are in PRU.
Plan and expected resultsOverall most children make significant steps forward, acquiring skills, confidence, capability in teamwork and social interaction, aspiration for further and higher education and travel and repositioning themselves within the job market. 421 children have raised aspirations (77% of these experienced significant improvements). 396 have improved behaviour in group settings (76% experienced significant improvements). 396 have improved self-esteem (76% experience significant improvements).
