The past 12 months have been really shit for everyone & on top of lockdown I've also had some pretty tough personal shit going off but thanks to a team of amazing people I've made progress with my messed up head for the first time in a long time & I'm slowly, a lot of the time painfully, making progress (a very wise lady keeps reminding me it's a marathon not a sprint).
Two of the things that have helped me the most are finding, and falling in love with, open water swimming and finally finding a therapist that didn't run away screaming when we first met or when I tried to scare the life out of her a couple of times. She's stuck with me, she's held my hand (pre covid), she's listened, she's held hope for me when I couldn't, she's she's fought for crisis care for me when I've needed it, she's worried about me, she's made me laugh as many times as she's made me cry, she's talked when I couldn't, she's been there and encouraged me every step of the way & she's promised she's going no where soon (intentionally anyway). All this has been made possibly by the amazing charity Sodit who have funded my therapy & provided, & continue to provide, amazing peer support for women in Sheffield.
This year, thro my new found love for open water swimming, I aim to do an event every month to raise a £1000 forSodit who are a small Sheffield based charity that rely totally on donations.
JANUARY
To swim outside 18 times between the 1st & 31st of the month
FEBRUARY
So my swim challenge for Feb is to swim 10 times with someone different each time and in as many new places as poss (covid rules followed) & to find out why that person loves wild swimming.
