Gurkhali Jyan Sarkar Group
A group that got together at a time of great need.
The first time in British history we’ve had a mass migration of older people with language barrier from Nepal. Royal Borough of Greenwich is believed to have one of UK’s largest numbers of newly migrated Nepali Gurkha Veterans and war widows.
Several research done over the last 7 years proves that so far no recommendations have been met. Many still are not registered with GP’s. Many are not reaching the right support or services.
Many of our Community Aamas have been left completely Isolated without families or friends.
Many newly arrived just before the lockdown are not even sure where to get personal protection equipment.
Many of our Aamas have been left afraid and confused with so many changes in Government guidelines.
Many are having to really on their Landlords to provide them with Food. As a new arrived many from remote villages of Nepal.
Even with landlords help. Some of our Gurkha Veterans and War widow finds it extremely difficult to converse. Though Royal Borough of Greenwich Council is providing many volunteers to help vulnerable older people.
it’s particularly hard for our Aamas to ask Non Nepali for help to get simple things like some vegetables or anti-viral disinfectant.
They don’t know how to translate.

Decided to come together while maintaining Social Distancing to support an armed forces community, Whom without the World would have been completely different.

To fundraise to repair our Aamas Allotment. For Many of our Community member the allotment is their safe haven. Only place they feel safe outdoor. The outdoor space improves their health and well-being. Get to exercise and stay nourish with their own grown organic fruit and veg.
We also fundraising to buy and supply necessarily personal protection equipment. Since on the 24th of July there will be some new laws enforced.
